Thuy Duong Nguyen

I am an MSc student at the University of Alberta, advised by Dr. Jocelyn Chen and Dr. Xi Ye.

My research focuses on building AI agents that support and align with humans. I study language-model reasoning and develop reliable agents that learn from evolving contexts and interact with people.

Previously, I was an AI Resident at Qualcomm AI Research, where I worked with Dr. Tung Pham and Dr. Dat Quoc Nguyen.

LongHarness Bench: Stress-Testing Language Model Harnesses for Long-Context Reasoning
Quang Hieu Pham*, Thuy Duong Nguyen*, Jocelyn Chen+, Xi Ye+.
Preprint, 2026.

  • We introduce a benchmark that stress-tests language-model harnesses on long-context reasoning while measuring both accuracy and computational cost.

ClozeMath: Improving Mathematical Reasoning in Language Models by Learning to Fill Equations
Quang Hieu Pham*, Thuy Duong Nguyen*, Tung Pham, Anh Tuan Luu, Dat Quoc Nguyen.
Findings ACL 2025.

  • We train language models to connect natural-language plans with mathematical equations through text infilling.
